At the age 11, Ryan Allis started a consulting business: to teach old people how to use AOL and how to send pictures to their grandkids. He charged them $5 per hour for the service. At the age 14, he started to do website designing. At the age 16, he launched a web marketing consultancy company. In the same year, he wrote down a big goal: to build a company with 1 million dollars sale by the time he was 21. “I missed it by 18 days”, he later remarked. In 2003, Ryan met his partner Aaron Houghton in a conference and they decided to build an email marketing service, iContact, together after meeting for three days. In 2009, iContact generated revenue of $26.5 million. In 2012, when Ryan was 27 years old, iContact was sold to Vocus for $169 million.
